The Gig December
Concert Review
By: c.s.
Everyone associated with music knows that a random weeknight is
the best time to see live music; good for industry types, good
for the press, GREAT for musicians. The monthly LA Music Scene
night at The Gig this past Tuesday was packed with all types
there to see a line-up that included The Trace, Lister, and That
Fat Frog. Canadians, and L.A. transplants, Lister blew away the
usually finicky L.A. audience with one beautifully composed song
after another. This band exudes confidence, particularly from
vocalist Stuart Lister, who sang and played with an endearing
quality and delight. Brother Michael Lister on guitar/keyboard
and drummer Marco Rayes added perfectly poised harmonies
throughout the set, adding interesting layers. I loved
"Wound Up," and "Wide-eyed" has pop hit
written all over it (um, in a good way). Radio will love Lister's
infectious melodies, while fan's will swoon over Stuart's
congenial voice and presence, and the band's overall tight,
cohesive, sing-along sound. I'm a sucker for them Canadian,
singer-songwriter, musician types.
